This movie is about Glenn Holland who was a high school music teacher for 30 years. His real work, he believes, is to compose music. Teaching is just a way to pay some bills. At first he didn’t take much interest in teaching but after a while he started loving his job as a music teacher at John F. Kennedy High School. Then one day, his wife was pregnant with his son Nicole Holland. He later figured out that his son is 90 percent deaf and was very upset .It took a while to understand and develop a stable relationship with his son is Nicole. When, after 30 years of teaching, the music program at his school got canceled. He felt really bad and wondered if he had accomplished anything in life. He was really interested in his father’s job. Even though he have hearing problems he attends all of his father’s concerts and listens to Beatle which is his father’s favorite band. He knows a lot about music but wants to be an astronaut. Sometimes his father yells at him but he doesn’t react and takes it lightly. He has always supported his father throughout the whole movie. The character portrays his role really well. His acting is very natural and the most impressive part is that his acting really shows how a child with hearing disability might react. However, sometimes I do feel that the character does not bond very well with his father. I think that the director should have included a scene of Nicole spending more time with his father and doing some father and son activities.
After watching this film I don’t think the audience would know much about the disability and what other special talents they have and can do. Nicole played a very minor role in this movie. His father was the main role and he didn’t have much to do with his son. The father’s main focus was teaching the high school band. Nicole basically didn’t receive any basic musical training from his
