In “Good Country People” the character Hulga/Joy is an arrogant person. She has a view of the world that is skewed by her PhD in philosophy. Hulga acts as though she is the only person who actually knows anything and that she has analyzed the world around her to the point that she can predict what people will do. This all changes when she encounters Manly Pointer.
