Have you done it? Have you ever lost someone close to you like a friend or family member in a car accident? Have you ever thought about the fact that texting while driving may have been the distraction that caused the accident? I know that I myself am guilty of texting and driving but after reading a few articles I do not see it as being as important to text someone back even if it is to tell them I am on my way. About a year ago, I was in an accident it was not too severe but had I not looked down at my phone when I was coming up to a light I probably could have avoided it happening altogether. I believe that the laws that are set in place for texting in driving should be a little stricter just so that people will understand the severity of it. This is a major problem that not only the person doing the texting but ever person on the road faces on a daily basis something needs to be done. First of all did you know that there are accidents that happen on a daily basis that are caused from texting while driving a statistic from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety texting while driving kills 11 teens each day. Think about if that was your son or daughter? Teens from the age 15 to 19 years old make up the largest portion of distracted drivers according to Edgar Snyder. Even though you might not do it there was a poll that was taken that 94 percent said that texting while driving was a serious threat but 35 percent said that they do it anyway. Every state needs a no texting and driving law because researchers have found that it quadruples crash risks. According to Edgar Snyder distracted drivers cause about 6,000 deaths and a half a million injuries every year. I feel that
