2nd Lieutenant Hernandez HHC 1st period
Linda Bridgewater was raised in a small town called Bahama in Northern Durham County. She moved around a lot as a child and did not have stability and structure in her life. When she reached the age of 18 she realized she didn't want to stay in Bahama and since college wasn't an option she enlisted in the Army Reserve on June 10, 1977.
She attended her basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Some of her favorite memories of being in the military were at Basic Training. At random intervals throughout the week her platoon would be pulled out at 0300 to police the grounds, which means to sweep for trash. To prevent pushups from coming back empty handed she and her comrades would tuck trash in the blousing bands through the day so they could produce trash on call. Another fond memory of basic training was when she and another private were charged to protect a barrel in the middle of the night. When there she studied in the field of x-rays and basic medical training. After her training, ranked as a Private First Class,she was sent back to North Carolina as a reservist. She participated in the monthly field drills at Fort Bragg, NC and served under the command of the 327th U.S. Army Hospital in Durham, NC. She would serve on the base during the week then she would be able to go home for the weekend. She remembers fondly when she would have free time on the base and her and her comrades were allowed leisure time. One of her favorite times in the Army was participating in medevac field drills. She grew impatient with only serving for field drills and occasional medical drills so she decided she wanted go into the Army as active
