In the economic area, the involvement of the U.S. in the World War ll made a major impact towards making a big improvement, which was ending the Great Depression. The voluntary efforts of the Americans in the home front took care of the 17 million people who were unemployed in 1939. When the U.S. decided to act in total war (meaning giving priority to the military effort), it created many job opportunities to Americans in the home front. The fact that the draft was taking away many young men to war, and that there was so many things that needed to be done, created a pressure in the home front. A numerous amount of war agencies developed to coordinate and to calculate the war production. President FDR was never devoted to eliminate old agencies nor of firing people who worked for him, and so he created one agency after another and hired many different people. With the constant creation of new ones, the old ones often competed with the new ones to guide the war effort. This competitive pattern and work environment allowed him to eventually receive different ideas and solutions to make the final choices himself.
