As a youth, Grendel lived with his mother in a cave among human civilization. A horrid, afflicted beast who forgot his own tongue, was stuck with one person in his life, his mother. Grendel never really could make friends because the humans were scared out of their minds seeing a monster yet alone talking to one. One day, the young Grendel finds a lake full of firesnakes and, extends through to find a whole new world. On an early exploration, he gets stuck. A tree held Grendel in place while a bull and a group of humans attacked him before his mother was able to get there.
Grendel became absorbed with a completely different world. A world of men, watching from a safe distance as mankind evolved from a roaming, inbred culture with pathways, governments, and militaries. He is ultimately confused by their actions and had hatred toward violence. Grendel watched as Hrothgar matured into the most powerful man in the area. Eventually he became king of the Danes.
