Hypertension is word that is used to describe high blood pressure .Blood pressure is the force the blood produces against the arterial wall as your heart pumps. The heart pumps the blood though the artery as it flows it pushes the blood against the walls of the arteries creating pressure. The higher the pressure is against the wall the higher the blood pressure will be. The pressure is related to the size of the artery which the blood passes through the smaller the artery is the higher the pressure will be. The pressure is measured in milliliters of mercury Blood pressure is at the highest when the heart contracts or pumps the blood through the arteries this measurement is called the Systolic pressure. He was instructed that spiritual and prayer can also help lower stress. We provided written material to Mr. Garcia regarding lifestyle changes that needed to be made such as diet, and the need to lose weight, daily exercise, reducing alcohol consumption. Mr. Garcia is concerned that his illness will change his quality of life he states he does not have time to exercise daily and is concerned with the change in his diet lowering salt and fat. He will also be required to monitor his blood pressure daily and keep a record. The plan included one on one teaching on how to use the blood pressure cuff correctly. The patient was able demonstrate the use of the blood pressure cuff correctly. He refuses to take the antihypertensive medications at this time during. He does not believe in medication as his mother has had hypertension for many years she also refuses to take any meds. The plan included written material and visual materials on the different medications used to treat hypertension.
The educational needs for Mr. Garcia are to know the normal levels for blood pressure and the importance of controlling his high blood pressure and prevent any complications such as heart attack or stroke, heart failure, weak or narrowed blood vessels and thickened or torn blood vessels. It will also be important to have Mr. Garcia be compliant with his medication if any are prescribed. The teaching plan will include motivation to help educate the
