The West created both American equality and discrimination. Going West to some meant a fresh start, and a better quality of life. The frontier was unexplored to the Americans, it was new, underpopulated land, everyone thought that everyone would be able to have what the next did.
Inequality in the West was caused by the government taking the land from the Indians and not keeping their word. They gave them the land that the whites did not want. This caused the Indians to fight against the whites. They did not think that it was fair of them to be able to come and take the land that wasn't theirs. There was also inequality with the Chinese and the Mexicans. While the gold rush was going the Chinese were taxed unlike the Americans. The Americans
