I attended the event about Interviewing in the U.S. for International Students on October 20, 2015, 3:00pm - 4:00pm at Marvin Center Room 307. Anne Scammon, the Managing Director of GW Career Center, gave us a lot of help in interviewing in the U.S., especially for us international students.
Anne told us some her own experience and answered questions we asked. And then, she told us how to prepare for the interview, what should pay attention to during the interview and things we should do after the interview. The top take–away for me is to how to prepare for the interview. First, we should research the employer. For example, the organizational structure, current news and products. Second, we should practice. We all know that practice makes perfect. So we should list some questions that the employer will ask, answer the questions and practice saying them …show more content…
Anne told us the do’s and don’ts during the interview, which I think is not only the rules we should follow during the interview, but also in daily communication. For example, smile and shake hands firmly. Listen carefully and don’t interrupt other people when they are talking. Make sure cell phones are on silent. Request a business card from interviewer or other people, so we can follow up with them afterward. Also, when we talk about the question may be asked during the interview, I knew some points to improve my professionalism in accounting. Interviewers may ask what's the most challenging accounting task I've have to solve. This is a question to test my experience. I can introduce the difficulty I met when studying accounting or doing internship, and then I used some accounting software to deal with the problems. So I not only answer the question, but also introduce my strength. This suggested answer informs me to do some internship and learn accounting
