Internet Sexual Addiction

It seems that the Internet has become an ever-growing part in numerous areas of the everyday lives of people. One area that is worthy of further study involves sexual addiction and how it is related with too much use of the Internet. Some scholars allege that sociopaths are starting to emerge online and it has been dubbed as “technological addictions”. This article looks at Internet addiction with respect to excessive sexual behavior. It includes discussions of the notion of addiction to sex and whether the entire notion is viable. However, sex addicts seem to come from all nationalities, classes, races, and sexual orientations. Addictions to sex seem to have identifiable patterns of behavior (Carnes, 1999). This includes acting out patterns of wild and unrestrained sexual behaviors such as having constant affairs, relentless indulging in pornography, and compulsive masturbation, in which extreme changes in mood relate to sexual activities. The sex addict goes through serious repercussions resulting from sexual behavior and an incapability to stop in spite of these grave repercussions. These repercussions can include legal risks from nuisance offenses to rape complaints, risks of contracting sexually-transmitted diseases, suicide attempts, suicidal tendencies and/or obsession, abortions, unwanted pregnancies, loss of career opportunities, grave relationship or marital problems, and loss of a spouse of partner. Sex addicts progressively intensify their amount of sexual involvement because the present level is no longer sufficient to satisfy them, that is, they build up tolerance. Sex addicts may find themselves wanting more abnormal and unusual sexual activities, more often sexual encounters, and more visual pornography, as tolerance develops. These patterns of behavior are only investigative and do not rule out other signs that may be characteristic of addiction to sex. One of the most remarkable events over
