Viewing Response: Iron Jawed Angels
There is never a moment in history that means more than another. Any constitutional right given to man should be allowed the same for women. Iron Jawed Angels, greatly depict a moment in history that allowed just that. The suffering and fight put up by the NWP showed the intelligence and courage that women possess. In the beginning of this movie, there is no doubt that they were going to go in there with all their might and bring about justice and equality for women. In use of President Wilson’s inauguration, they could prepare a parade that shed light on the issues. This helped further their cause, though many things still needed to occur. You want a place in the trades and professions where you can earn your bread, so do I.
You want some means of self-expression some way of satisfying your personal ambitions, so do I.
You want a voice under the government in which you live, so do I.
This is the most important scene to me during this film. The focus on the women’s suffrage movement is felt in very word she says. She knows that there is someone within the room who must type out every word she says. Her use of her time, imprisonment and education really leave a lasting impression on myself. After the leaking of the events that occur within the workhouse to these women, the NAWSA decide to pull themselves to the side of the NWP. After the many years trying to get the opportunity to have a voice and be self-governed the way men are, the amendment was passed. The intricate work put into this movie shows the filmmakers true love for women’s rights. Each scene can draw from history and paint a picture of what it was like for those of us not around during those times. Seeing women fight for what they believe is truly theirs and lawfully doing so awakens the happy feminist in
