Jose R. Walker was born December 13, 1798 in Virginia Tennessee. On November 13, 1833 he and his team were the first Americans to discover Yosemite Valley. He was later considered one of the great mountain men of his time. In 1837-1838 he went to Arizona, he might have made a gold discovery. He served as a guide to John Charles. He had little education, but he was a really smart explorer and a leader. In 1833 he guided the Bonneville expedition. He was the first white man to cross the Sierra Nevada’s.
