Imitation of Life

Another Turner Classic Movie came out in 1959 starring Lana Turner. This is my favorite version but this was a remake of the original which came out in 1934. It was a true Hollywood tear jerker which took everyone on a real emotional roller coaster. The movie begins with Lora Meredith played by Lana Turner losing her daughter Suzie portrayed by Sandra Dee in Coney island. She discovers her under the boardwalk with a black woman named Annie Johnson by Juanita Moore and her daughter Sarah Jane by Susan Kohner. Lora is a white, single mom who dreams of getting on the Broadway stage in New York City. So that she can pursue her dream Annie agrees to move in with her and watch both girls while mom is out and about.
