LSD, also known as Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is a harmful drug that has always been illegal in the United Kingdom. According to the 2014/15 Crime Survey for England and Wales, 1.2% of young adults (teenagers) were reported to have taken LSD, as opposed to only 0.4% of full grown adults. This is over twice the amount of LSD users during 2012/13. It shows how the drug is popular among teenagers as some believe that it relieves stress and allows them to experience entertaining hallucinations known as “trips”.

An addiction treatment centre, “Rehabs.com”, states that LSD could cause long term effects of severe paranoia. This could ruin your life because you will never be able to rest in peace. There will always be a feeling of fear in you that stops you from living life as normal, however an entry on “Yahoo Answers” says that small doses of the drug can have positive medical effects. This is not very reliable because Yahoo Answers lets anybody publish answers on their website. Brown University, based in Rhode Island says that LSD shouldn't be legalised because it causes an extreme change in behaviour. This is mental torture because behaviour is meant to change slowly over time due to certain experiences, not in an instant by drugs. The website “How Stuff Works” states that LSD shouldn't be legalised because it may cause people to “feel completely disconnected from everybody else.” This leads to loneliness. A bitter, sad and lonely life, however Brown University argues that LSD is not an addictive drug. This suggests that it isn't too dangerous even if it causes people to “feel completely disconnected from everybody else.” The American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) stated that LSD can be very dangerous because unpleasant flashbacks can still occur months after the last dose of LSD taken, however a drug addiction blog states that LSD isn't too dangerous because it doesn't really cause death.
