In life, we try to surround ourselves with people who we think are reliable but do we really know what they are thinking? In the play Othello by Shakespeare, the protagonist Othello is being manipulated and played by Iago who is basically trying to keep a lie by creating another lie creating a snowball effect. All the lies are forming into one giant web of lies that he can not control or handle. All in all, what brought down Othello was being born into nobility, Having a character flaw, and having or showing physical or spiritual wounds. Our protagonist like any tragic hero has a rise to power, so Othello rise to power was when he became a storyteller for Desdemona’s family. From listening to Othello’s stories Brabantio (Desdemona’s Father) asked him to be a lieutenant for the Venetian Army. He fell in love with Brabantio’s Daughter, Desdemona. So Othello and Desdemona decided that they should go secretly get married. But snitching Iago told Brabantio, about how they went to get married. “Duke: Brave Othello I have to send you to right away to fight the turk, our great enemy” (Pg. 33). This quote shows how respected and what his hustling has done to get a title where he is respected in the a court. So his fatal flaw was that he had severe jealousy towards Desdemona if there was evidence to support these claims.
