People think that they need to be popular and change their identity to “fit in”, but having originality brings the best and truest happiness. In the book Stargirl, Jerry Spinelli uses personification, symbolism, and metaphors to show that originality brings happiness. “And for the dormant mud frogs we had been for so long” (Spinelli 40). By using metaphors, you are able to see the impact Stargirl had on her community. She would dress how she wanted, talk how she wanted, and act how she wanted, hence so did the kids of Mica high.
