According to Eric Foner in his book “Give Me Liberty!”, Native Americans were part of the less fortunate during and after the American Revolution. The key reason for that is they lost a massive amount of land and crops. For example, General John Sullivan burned forty Indian towns, destroyed thousands of bushels of corn, and uprooted an enormous number of fruit trees and vegetable gardens. He did this because all the officers, including himself were advised by William Henry Drayton to cut up every Indian cornfield, burn every Indian town, and enslave all Indian captives. This caused several Iroquois communities to starve.
As the war raged, Americans forced defeated tribes like the Cherokee to surrender most of their land.
Additionally, the
