Another solution is having beacon vendors work on and implement security features to make up for iBeacon’s disadvantages. Although news of security breaches of Apple’s iBeacon has not surfaced, it does not eliminate the idea that such criminal acts occur. Since the iBeacon has such poor security features, improvements in its system must be made in order to protect customers’ private information. One recommendation is to upgrade the identifiers to constantly change themselves and allow only authorized clients to decode them (Mittal). This gives the sense that the client’s information remains private since they have the “key” to this beacon. While this feature is much more secure, it limits retailers who want to promote to their customers. The authorization feature applies to retailers only since consumers would not want do the promoting service themselves. This improvement may also contradict with Apple’s primary goal of assisting retailers, but it can also help in other cases like a traveller finding their luggage in an airport. Increasing the battery power allows longer power consumption and decreasing the number of times businesses have to constantly replace their batteries. This saves companies money while also protecting the environment as the amount of technological waste decreases. Additionally, iBeacon should increase its battery power in order to improve its range. A higher mAh will increase broadcasting power, which allows the its range to increase (Aislelabs). The beacon would be able to detect a smartphone from farther away while the phone receives a stronger signal. Upon increasing its range, the smartphone will receive notification, emails, coupons, and more at higher speed. This will be very beneficial for retailers as an improved range functionality attracts more customers to the stores during sales
