Social Changes in Texas

One of the most interesting things on the 1900’s was how oil boomed in Texas and people got rich really fast because of it.
Oil is thick black gooey liquid from decomposed plants and animals. In Texas it made people rich really fast. Spindletop was one of the most popular oil places in Texas. How spindletop became popular was somebody was having a picnic on top of the hill and he could smell the oil and then he bought a rig and started drilling. By the time he found it spindletop became a boomtown in Texas.
How does Texas oil affect the social change of the state?The social change was because of oil booms and people coming together.

The oil business multiplied jobs for African and Mexican americans.
Even though African and Mexican AMericans couldn't get work on the oil rig it multiplied jobs for them like clearing land,laundry, cooking, and cleaning houses. They were called spin off jobs because the people that were doing it had no skill or had very low skill. (Doc C)A story that is on the document has a story about a african american woman who moved to midland to make more money. In MIdland she made $1 for every hour for domestic work and she would usually make $10 a week.

When they found oil it was the first major oil discovery in West Texas. Within a year there was 17 producing rigs in the Big Lake Field. The University of Texas was on its way to being a very rich school. (Doc
