Oscar de la Renta was born on 22 July 1932 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is a Dominican-American fashion designer who helped define standards of elegant dressing among socialites. He did this by blending European luxury with ‘American ease’. He was trained by Cristobal Balenciaga and Anotnio del Castillo. in the 1960s He became internationally known as one of the couteriers who dressed Jacqueline Kennedy (of the 35th President of the United States).
Oscar was the last born in his family and the only boy. His mother was Carmen María Antonia Fiallo and his father was a Puerto Rican, Óscar Avelino De La Renta, who was an owner of an insurance company. De la Renta was raised in a very Catholic and protective family. When he was 18 his mother died from complications of multiple sclerosis.
