The last promise you declare when saying the Florence Nightingale Pledge is to devote yourself to the welfare of those committed to your care (nursingworld.org). That’s a big promise; you are now committing yourself to the well-being, health, comfort, protection and safety of your future patients. Patient safety is an important issue to consider in the nursing field and I believe that safety must start with quality training while in school. It is of the upmost importance to reduce the gap between the classroom and clinical setting. Studies have shown that simulation scenarios followed by debriefing sessions have strengthened education of patient safety (Tella, et al., 2014). The objective of this literature is to outline scrutinized peer-reviewed …show more content…
High-fidelity simulators are realistic mannequins that can express almost all real patient symptoms including convulsions, bleeding, secretions, vascular access, drug recognition, pupillary responses, and more. They also allow for procedural features such as tracheotomy, defibrillation, catheter insertion and chest tubes. These mannequins are exceptional for students to begin their practices. Then a debriefing session can be utilized so students can identify errors made, analyze their mistakes and learn a better response thus correcting these errors. This approach leads to confidence, competency and in theory real world patient safety. If the complexity of real patient care can be closely mimicked in simulations, then the students can feel more comfortable and self-assured when a difficult situation is presented in clinical practice (Tella, et al., 2014). Also these mannequins allow adoption of a patient centered approach in education, and thus patient safety is seen highlighted through routines and as a pronounced part of …show more content…
