Working in an early childhood setting lets me discover many sides to learning and how each child is different to the next in how they ascertain knowledge. Some children are very much social learners and learn best when they discuss, contemplate, negotiate and construct ideas with others, be it another adult or their peers in small or larger groups utilizing a social constructivist style of learning. I remember observing a small group of three children constructing a police station from small Lego bricks, during this construction they had many discussions on how a police station should appear and which brick should go where. Sometimes the conversations developed an elevated level of vehemence about the particular question, however through debate, they succeeded to agree on the outcome and endured to produce their police station. When they had finished, they proudly turned to me and professed they had finished and proceeded to express what each section did, such as where the door was and where the police cars went and so on.
