Protecting those who cannot protect themselves is the motivation of all superheroes. The motives of villains can be cliché and generic at times, but a few villains truly standout. One of these popular and unique villains is the Batman’s nemesis, the Joker. The Joker is interesting in that unlike other criminals, the Joker’s sole role is to cause chaos and bring the Batman to his knees, and show that the Caped Crusader is not superior to the criminals he preys on. The Joker wants to show the Batman that he cannot live by his noble codes. On the other side of the spectrum, Batman is a fairly generic character, and is fairly identical in his appearances in media.The Dark Knight fights crime in a major city after a tragic childhood.
