Mission statements are essential for a department that strives to uphold the community policing method of law enforcement. Mission statements are considered a road map for departments to guide their officers (Miller, Hess, & Orthmann, 2014). It is a way that the community and the department can work together in coming up with a mission statement that works best for their community (Miller et al., 2014).
