Prey, by Michael Crichton, is the story of a man named Jack Forman. He begins as a househusband, who has lost his job, and now stays at home and helps take care of the kids, while his wife is busy with her corporation, Xymos. However, Jack plays a bigger role than he could imagine. He is the only one who can stop something almost invisible to the eye. They can adapt, they can change, and they are deadly. They were meant to help, but now they’re a threat to anyone who gets near them. This story teaches that when working, there should not be any shortcuts taken, that you should not skip over details just to reach an end. Later on, Julia shows a demo from what she says is that day, of them testing their new invention, a sphere of nanoparticles that create a camera that can see inside the human body. Jack later finds out, however, that the video was taken the day before, furthering his suspicions. The next day, Jack sees an old friend at the supermarket, Ricky Morse, a department head at Xymos. He asks about Julia, and Ricky seems to dodge the question. That night, when checking on Amanda, she grabs her crib and starts screaming. When Jack picks her up, she has a big red rash, which extended in welts up her back and towards her neck. Jack takes her to the hospital, and Amanda goes into convulsions when they get there. However, once the doctors put her into an MRI, she becomes better, and her skins starts turning a normal color again. The next day, however, she is a purple-blue color, but that is the only problem externally and internally.
