The District's Commission on Father, Men, and Boys (CFMB) is partnering with The District of Columbia's Public Schools (DCPS) to implement the Promise Initiative. The Promise Initiative is a mentorship program that is designed to facilitate and cultivate experiences that give District youth exposure to the professional world. The initiative is scheduled to commence during the 2018 school year. The program will be available for young men 13-18 years-old. The first pilot cohort will run out of Ron Brown an all-male high school.

The program will complement the student's current academic experience through career based instruction, mentoring, and hands-on workshops. Long-time Washingtonian and CFMB Director Tony Dugger added, “This initiative will involve field trips were our mentees will actually go out and connect with successful black men…they will see what successes looks like and they can see that it is attainable.” The program will also focus on grooming and etiquette experiences, CFMB program analyst, Ajan Brown said, "The program will host workshops that teach the young men to (1) properly prepare business attire, (2) coordinate accessories, (3) maintain professional footwear, and (4) proper care of skin, hands, and nails."
