12/1/14 Critical Thinking
#2 I believe that Morrie talking about having “a bird on your shoulder” indicates a sign of peace and happiness. When we was talk to Mitch I believe Morrie just wanted him to realize that any day could be the day that he passes away, but Morrie wasn’t in denial of death, he wanted to spend every waking moment he had left and share the memories and his knowledge with the ones that meant most to him.
I think that if we truly lived with that bird on our shoulder asking us if we are ready to die today, we would bond so strongly with every event in our lives. We would appreciate every little thing that we have. For example, every walk around the block, every phone call from our parents, every conversation with our friends, every visit from an old friend, and so on. Each of our lives would be laced with such urgency and passion that we would need to remind ourselves of the significance of each and everyday and the people that mean the most to us. We would pinch ourselves regularly as a reminder to appreciate the moment that we are in. According to The Lu Study “a scale of cooperativeness” or how well others engage can result in a positive way, which could result in happiness. I also believe that cooperation in a relationship is very important, like Morrie is to Mitch, because without cooperation in one another why put in all the work for yourself, if the others don’t want to work
