Reflective Essay: My Writing And The Writing Process

From my prior writing experience the most intense and thorough writing has come in the past two years. In high school, I was in the honors track for English until junior year. Senior year I took College Credit Plus English through my local community college, but only for a semester. I didn’t take a second semester due to the time I was spending on my AP classes and basketball practice after school every day. Entering college, my first semester I took a classical mythology class that had a writing element. The papers focused on what the student believed the moral or civil lesson that was being taught using references to the current book being read. I also took two semesters of Engineering Fundamentals which had a lab component that would require a report to be produced after the lab. The reports had to be written in a professional language using data analysis that was gathered during the experiment or activity completed in the lab. Over my years of writing I have developed proficiency in different aspects of writing and the writing process. One strength I have is in the planning stages of writing, I use outlines to plan the content of the paper paragraph by paragraph and sub points I want to make sure I get across in each paragraph. Mechanically, I have not always been able to determine the correct grammar or punctuation usage for the different types of writing. I also struggle with sitting down and focusing in on writing a paper, many times I am rushing to finish a paper the day of submission. My mind will tend to wander with or without distraction. A third weakness is transitioning between putting ideas on to paper in terms the reader will understand. I sit in the knowledge-transforming part of the curve I can keep in mind myself and the text, but the reader often slips my mind during the writing process. These weaknesses lead into my
