: Dependent
Conceptual definition
: Quality of life is a person’s perspective on his/her engagement in occupation, community integration, independence and ability to selfdirect their services. It is also perceived satisfaction in terms of quality of family life.
Operational definition

Information source: Self report
Response set
: Answers choices: Very dissatisfied, dissatisfied, neutral, satisfied, very satisfied
Validity:

Reliability:
Yes, it has constancy, internal constancy and equivalency
B: Quality of Life Inventory Scale (QOLI)
Information source: Self report
Response Set: Dissatisfaction and satisfaction from very low to high on a line scale from 6 to 6 across 16 domains.
Validity:
Yes Criterion validity: Predictive validity, concurrent validity
Reliability:
Yes
has testretest reliability, has internal consistency
Variable 2
: Occupational engagement
Dependent or independent
: Dependent
Conceptual definition
: Occupational engagement is a subjective perspective on a person’s participation in activities of daily living, and fulfillment in life tasks.
Operational definition
:
A list of 26 “items”, which are elements of participation. For each
item, two types of questions are asked one objective and two subject. The 26 items are sorted into five categories: Domestic Life; Major Life Activities; Transportation;
Interpersonal Interactions and Relationships; and Community, Recreational and Civic Life.
Tools
: Introduction to the Participation Objective, Participation Subjective (POPS)
Information source: Self report
Response set: This appendix contains the SPSS syntax to calculate subscale scores and total scores for both the objective ("PO") and the subjective ("PS") components of the POPS. Using cutandpaste, the syntax can be inserted into an
SPSS syntax file, for immediate use.
It assumes that in the SPSS data file (___.sav) the 26 objective variables are named PO01 through PO26; the base period for frequency/hours variables are named PER09 through PER26; the importance ratings are named PShi01 through
PShi26 (hi stands for how important); and the desire for change answers are name PSda01 through PSda26 (da stands for desired activity).
If in the ___.sav file the names of the variables are different, they should be recoded to the names specified here. Alternatively, the variable names can be changed in the syntax provided below; however, that will make exchange and combining of data files more difficult.
variables PER09 through PER26
