The Son of Sam wasn’t just your average everyday guy. He wasn’t even what I would consider a normal criminal.A guy that talked to a dog could probably be considered a little on the abnormal side. But I'll get to that soon, first let me tell you about Richard David Falco.
Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1953. A few short days after his birth, his mother put him up for adoption. Her reasons for giving her child away are not known, whether it be shortness of money, or not wanting a child, or whatever the reason may be. He was giving the last name of his mother’s ex husband who had been out of the picture long before he was born.
Richard was adopted by a Jewish couple who lived in the Bronx. They then changed his name to David Richard Berkowitz. He grew up as an only child. David was said to be extremely smart, but lost interest in school. He started committing small crimes and had an addiction with setting things on fire. He went into counseling and his crimes weren’t affecting his school work.
David’s adoptive mom died at the age of fourteen. This was a hard time to David, because he didn’t like his adoptive father’s next wife. When he became eighteen he joined the U.S. Army. He stayed in the army for three years and was

A young girl walking home from her college class was confronted by Berkowitz. She attempted to protect herself by putting her textbooks in front of her. The attempt was useless and she was shot in the head and kill instantly. He fled the scene of the crime and nearly ran into someone who had just heard the shooting. He pulled the hat over his face in an attempt to not be identified. He was described to the police as a husky teenage boy that was clean shaven. This was rather accurate because of his bulky stature. Two days later the NYPD proved that the same gun had been used in other shootings around the city and he was first named the .44 caliber
