Summary
The Rwanda genocide was sparked by the death of the Rwanda president Juvenal Haby on April 6 h 1994. A French judge blamed his death on the current president of Rwanda but he blamed in on the Hutu extremists.
Hours after the presidents death word went from the capital throughout the country. The tension between the Hutu and the Tutsis have had built up tensions and the presidents death just was the last incident before the violence began.The Hutu was the majority group and the Tutsis was the minority group. Belgians arrived in 1916 and considered the Tutsis to be superior to the Hutus. They experienced better jobs and educational opportunities for 20 years. A French judge blamed current Rwanda president Paul Kagame which at the time was a leader of a Tutsi rebel group and some of his close associates for carrying out the rocket attack. Kagame denied this and said it was the work of the Hutu extremists. Hours later a campaign of violence spread from the capital throughout the country, and it didn't end until months later. But the death of the president was not the only cause of this genocide.
There have always been disagreements between the majority Hutus and minority Tutsis. The animosity between the two groups has grown substantially since the colonial period.
