I have set my SMART goal into action. Currently, I just obtained the position of official spokesperson for C6 Neuroscience Unit Based Forum (UBF). The UBF is a unit specific driven group that meets and discusses changes that C6 can make on the unit to improve the quality of patient care through researching best practices and evidence based research, and improve staff satisfaction and retention by letting the staff own the unit. This was accomplished by addressing the UBF that I would like to be the official spokesperson for our forum throughout the hospital. I am currently working with the UBF researching information on Interdisciplinary Rounds, more specifically Structured Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds (SIBR). The UBF has provided me with the opportunity to speak among my peers about issues that affect our unit. Speaking in this small group has help me build on my confidence and communication skills. After researching the articles, I have learned that communication is an essential skill. It is imperative for effective communication that I listen and understand because it is essential in detecting problems and finding solutions to resolve them (Tregoning, 2015). Also having a basic understanding of myself (Sherman & Pross, 2010) will help me build on my skills, I will know what I need to work on. I must demonstrate confidence and trust. I am building my confidence by speaking and becoming involved in the UBF. Also I am acknowledging my peers work on SIBR in the UBF. By accomplishing that task, it has strengthened our group as a whole. At the SIBR meeting I will be able to represent C6 in a confident, clear manner speaking about what needs to be accomplished to implement SIBR on C6.
