SW2 Stethem was a 23 years old Seabee diver who lived from November 17, 1961 - June 15, 1985. He died protecting the innocent and sacrificing himself for his shipmates. He was a proud server of the United Sates Navy earning a Bronze Star as well as a Purple Heart for his selfless act. He was 1 of 4 children raised in as house hold of Navy. In May 04,1981 Stethem joined the military, following not only in his father's footsteps, but his mother and siblings as well. His father was a Senior Chief for 20 years while his mother retired and served in the Court of Appeal for the military. He had two siblings in the military as well. Stethem and 4 other sailors were on a return flight from an assignment in Nea Madrid, Greece. The Hijacking lasted approximately 17 days though it was not specified if Stethem was alive for the full 17days. According to eye witnesses on the plane the Hijacking took place about 20 minutes once the flight took off and shortly after the flight took off it was said that the hijackers become suspicious about possible military personnel on the flight.
