C. R. Resetarits declares that Hawthorne does not only create a story about the concept of perfection, but also a story about sexual threaten and mismanagement that is expressed by Aylmer and Georgiana’s marital status. After their marriage, Aylmer realizes that the birthmark of Georgiana is obviously a sign of a defect in their lives. Resetarits states “Marriage also lends aspects of both rightness and righteousness to sex, and in “The Birthmark” instead of pushing against this notion for dramatic effect (as he does in The Scarlet Letter)[…]”(183). The story also represents the psychological and physical depths of Aylmer’s stress through his dream about removing the birthmark. Georgiana hears that Aylmer says in his sleep“It is in her heart
