Group Skills and Dynamics The group formed is called an educational/support group. The group consists of several Social Work (SW) professionals who came together for a common ground which includes educations and support dealing with clients who happens to be sex offenders. Working with sex offenders is not always easy for most professionals however; one cannot controls what type of client who walks into their office. The purpose of the group is to help these professional learn new coping skills and develop a new way of thinking when faced with such difficult clients. I built rapport with each member of the group because my main focus was helping them overcome their own biases. Many of them made remarks implying that they cannot work with sex offenders because they too have children and visualize their kids being victims to clients like the ones they counsel. As a result, many of the members were not open-minded to the idea of representing an offender. At one point, one of the members’s made a remark insinuating I did not understand how she feels and I was unable able to relate. That particular attitude became an ongoing cycle throughout the groups’ interaction. One individual opinion could easily influence the others perspective. Group climate is a concept that has been widely studied in group psychotherapy and refers to the attributes of the group environment, as perceived by group members that promote or hinder the efforts of its members to reach specific goals (Zorzola, 2012). I had to sort out new methods in assisting each member understand a common objective and help them map out methods in achieving goals. I remain neutral but at times that became difficult to accomplish because the members were adamant on change talk. My goal was to help these professional see that having support from other professional could easily help them work on areas that needs improvement by leaning on group members who posses other strengths that they are weak
