Stand Your Ground Law By Inoj Prescott

Stand your ground law shouldn’t be enforced because it promotes violence and many innocent bystanders are being killed each and every day. Stand your ground law was a law passed in 2005, generally allowing people to “Stand their ground” instead of retreating if they reasonably believe doing so would prevent death or greatly bodily harm (statute laws). A Stand Your Ground Law states that a person may use deadly force in self-defense. A person doesn’t have to leave the premise for fear of violence. The person is allowed to protect his or herself in the boundaries of the law. According to the State of Florida Stand your ground law a person should not have to retreat if the individual is in a place where he or she has the right to be. As long as the individual feel like their life is in danger they have the right to “protect themselves (cite). The stand your ground law causes a lot of controversy because gives people the ok to kill innocent people in most cases. People that are doing years in prison that have actually killed people because they had no other option are doing years in prison but people that have just killed someone because they felt like

Being that self-defense laws were the building blocks for stand your ground law, in most cases are often confused as being the same thing. Self defense means a person has the right to prevent suffering force or violence through the use of a sufficient level of counteracting force or violence (cite). With the stand your ground law it eliminates the duty to retreat, whereas self-defense laws state that if the actor has a reasonable method of retreat, they must retreat safely if possible before using self-defense
