BIOGRAPHY
Terrance Stanley Fox was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on July 28 1958 to Rolland and Betty fox. Terry was raised in Port Coquitlam; British Columbia with his parents his two brothers and his younger sister Judith. He was very athletic from a young age. By the time he graduated he became one of the two students to receive to receive the highest athletic award. One morning Terry woke up to see that he could no longer stand up. A week later Terry found out that his pain in his knee was not just an ache but he had bone cancer and he had to have his leg cut off six inches above the knee to prevent the cancer from spreading. In 1980, terry announced that he would run a marathon across Canada called the marathon of hope in order to raise funds and cancer research.
THE MARATHON OF HOPE
He started this incredible run with one leg on April 12, 1980 by dipping his right leg in the Atlantic Ocean. A friend of his, Doug Alward would drive the van behind him and cook the meals. When he started the run his goal was to raise one million dollars for cancer research. He ran those first few weeks of his marathon without support from anyone else. Even his buddy, the van driver doubted the mission. Two months into the marathon when he reached Ontario he started getting more support and was even invited to kick of a CFL game. More money
