Origin & symptoms
Discovered after an outbreak in China in
1330 moved to Europe in October 1337.
Carrier would display symptoms 3-4 days after infection.
Fever, headaches, chills, weakness, swollen/tender lymph nodes and large black spots.
Although not contagious person to person the plague spread because of the mass amounts of flea carrying rats.
Political impact
Before the plague popes of the Roman
Church held more political power than kings, afterward the dramatic decrease in religious faith, the society began to look back on the king.
The government officials began to get scarce.. Whether or not they were dying from the disease or secluding themselves in their castles, they seemed to just disappear. This lack of officials left the society in havoc.
Social Impact
Friends, families and cities were abandoned in hopes to escape the plague by leaving.
Funerals were not held due to large amounts of dead bodies.
The people figured that they should in a sense party because they could easily not see the next day. They called it “obey the maximum”. We can compare it to the modern day “Y.O.L.O”
Social classes sharpened.
Peasants became slightly empowered ,because of their new place in the economy, and caused revolts.
Jews were harshly blamed for the plagues happening. For they had always been accused of witchcraft and poisoning water, because of this the Jews were massacred and expelled from the cities. Economic Impact
