The literary genre is very expansive with thousands of stories written in numerous genres by countless authors. With that much, anyone is bound to find at least one story interesting enough to read. When looking at the stories, it is very good to take in count for the time period, the author’s life experiences, and any other hiding meanings behind to story to get a better understanding of why the story was written that certain way. Understanding the background of the story can help understanding the story as a whole. A story is more interesting when it can successfully tie in genres that seemingly are nothing alike. The quote is mentioned once, by the character Red Sammy when the family is at the diner when talking about recent criminal attacks from the Misfit. Many signs point to the saying talking about the Misfit. The criminal talks about growing up with a good life and with good parents, “finest people in the world…God never made a finer woman than my mother and my daddy's heart was pure gold,. Though, the man is now a serial killer. The conservation is deep with the grandmother trying to get Misfit on the side of Jesus. The rest of the family is quickly killed off by the Misfit henchmen, Bobby Lee and Hiram. After talking about Jesus and how he did not really raise the dead, and the grandmother seems to agree with him. Then the grandmother gets soft and reaches her arm to the Misfit to grab on his shoulder and explain, “Why you're one of my babies. You're one of my own children!”. This triggers the Misfit to shoot the grandmother three times in the chest. Even the way that the story describes the grandmother’s dead body, by describing it as “half sat and half lay in a puddle of blood with her legs crossed under her like a child's and her face smiling up at the cloudless sky”. This shows that the character of the grandmother was this sensitive and human side of the Misfit. Looking more into the character dynamics, it is interesting to see that the Misfit character was described as a savage killer, but only kills one character. Bobby Lee and Hiram do most of the killing while the grandmother and Misfit talk about religion. The title proves that it is talking about the Misfit because his character is deeper than just some killer. He felt something when he killed the grandmother, most likely because of the talking. There might be a good person deep inside the Misfit, but it is hard to
