Parents have purchased guns, yet some have done a poor job in securing this lethal weapon away from children. For example, 11 year old, Cassie Culpepper was with her 12 year old brother who had been handed a gun by their father to scare off unwanted predators, however, thinking the gun was unloaded, he started playing with it; the gun went off and he shot his sister (Luo, McIntire). The fact that Cassie’s father gave her brother a gun in the first place is already a red flag and irresponsible. A grown man allowing his 12 year old son to hold a loaded gun is outrageous. Another reason as to why guns should be banned would be because this has not been the first tragic incident that a child has been involved. According to the New York Times, “.45 Caliber pistol that killed Lucas Heagren, 3, on Memorial Day last year at his Ohio home had been temporarily hidden under the couch by his father. But Lucas found it and shot himself through the right eye” (Luo, McIntire). Even if the child was not being targeted by someone, leaving a gun inside the couch is very irresponsible. If having a gun and not placing it in a secure place, why obtain the gun in the first place? Banning of assault weapons is not such a bad idea, although, others may believe that guns should be kept
