Themes In Rodman Philbrick's Freak The Mighty

In the novel Freak the Mighty, one of the themes is, “Small actions can change your life.” This theme appears in Rodman Philbrick’s novel quite often and is one of the most consistent themes. The theme, “Small actions can change you life” is first shown in the story when Max, a very tall boy with dyslexia, helps Kevin, a small boy who is handicapped and just moved in, by pulling his “ornithopter” down from a tree. Max is usually isolated in his room and this is significant because he decides to help Kevin. This is a small action but it is the start of a strong friendship. Rodman Philbrick illuminates this theme again when Freak and Maxwell are chased down by a gang of bullies on the Fourth of July. The bullies end up chasing the boys
