Tim is the youngest son in a family of four, he has an older brother named Sam, Tim and Sam live with their parents who are Tories. Thus, Tim looks up to both Sam and his dad, Life. However, throughout the story I think Tim starts acting more like Sam due to his ability to grow up and take charge, his ability to think for himself, and an ability to be very brave.
If you had one word to describe Tim, it would be tough. Tim was used to doing the hard work by himself due to Sam being in the war. Tim hated doing work, therefore, when Sam came home, Tim wanted him to stay with him, but also envied how brave he was to be a soldier in the war. Bravery is something you need as a patriot, fighting for freedom, fighting for your life. Sam was very brave, no matter how much his family disagreed with him about him joining the army, Sam decided it was best for his colonies to be a free country. There is a thing about being a younger brother that makes Tim gallant also. He found out that his dad died in a prison ship, Tim knows that Sam won’t come back no matter what he says. With Sam and his Dad gone all the time, Tim needs to be brave for his family. Coming back from the cattle drive, Tim knows his dad had been abducted by cowboys. Tim makes the ultimate sacrifice of marching through the snow and cold with a huge wagon full of valuable supplies with cattle which was very scarce. Tim also knows that he’s prone to run into the same cowboys that abducted his dad. Tim pushes through and makes up a story that makes the cowboys leave him alone. Sam is later captured in the book and Tim single-handedly procrastinates the most stubborn general in the army camp. Later when Tim finds out he will be executed anyway, he goes and tries to save Sam without
