The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, located in Weston, West Virginia, is a 160 year old haunted site that many people visit each year (Trans). The asylum was originally designed to house 250 with privacy and comfort(Legends). Instead, the hospital held 717 patients by 1880, 1,661 patients by 1938, and a dangerously overcrowded 2,600 patients in the 1950’s (Legends). The Asylum was so enormous that they even had an added on tuberculosis building, which was established in 1930. Over the years, several fires have been started due to the patients there at the asylum. That caused major fixing up to do. In 1994, the Asylum closed due to changes in treatments of patients and the mess of the asylum (Legend). The asylum was auctioned off in August,2007 to Joe Jordon (Legend). He re-opened the asylum for paranormal tours as well as evening ghost hunts
