Within unit two, The Theban Plays, gives the reader great insight on the concept of power, and the responsibilities of power. In class and on our own, we read Sophocles’ The Oedipus Cycle which explains power and its responsibilities in great details through several motifs and symbols. For instance, Oedipus was bestowed with his kingdom when he earned the respect of the subjects by defeating the Sphinx’s riddle. This reaction from the subjects gives me the understanding that power is given to a person from the people of a country, city, or group.
