General Charles Cornwallis was a British General that fought bravely and was highly respected during the American revolution. September 11, 1777, Cornwallis outflanked Washington's defense position at the battle of Brandywine. Because of this he was then promoted to the lieutenant general and second in command of the army in America in 1778. He was in command of the British rear guard in the inconclusive battle of Monmouth Courthouse in June 28, 1778.
