One of the reasons all schools shouldn't have uniforms is because it eliminates self expression & freedom. First of all, 66% of students said “I don't feel like I can express myself and be me while wearing a school uniform”, according to www.greatkids.org. Kids and teens express themselves through their outfits and style, and when they are forced to wear uniforms, they feel uncomfortable and locked up. In addition, 34% of parents said their kids feel uncomfortable with uniforms on (www.kidsfasion.com). First off, there has only been three cases about inappropriate clothing in the last 40 years. One of them was only because someone was wearing high socks, many they had to be below the knee. Plus, most dress codes aren't very strict and unnecessary. The usual dress code consists of: hats off, no shorts, no skinny straps, no “gang colors”, no baggy pants, no leggings, no sunglasses or fake glasses, no spikes or chains, and much more. Overall, dress codes are safe and necessary for students, but having uniforms is too far.
Therefore, I think we should eliminate school uniforms for lots of reasons. Those being lack of self expression, high costs, and how it is unnecessary because there has been little reports about dress code control.
