Not too long ago, multiple signs began appearing in various places around the campuses of Morehouse and Spelman. The signs were used to draw attention and enforce accountability among the students and faculty at the schools. The poster quickly took down by the schools, but not before students capture several pictures sending media into a frenzy. These numbers prove that sexual assault on campus is more frequent than previously assumed. For HBCU students who already are in a much smaller cohort than most universities and colleges, these students could be their roommates, classmates, and friends. Studies have also shown that sexual assaults on HBCUs are much lower than that of PWIs. However, it has been speculated that the lower numbers may be due to underreporting.
On, Spelman College’s website a statement has been posted stating, "The College is committed to combating sexual assault and harassment on campus". Women of color on many college campuses have reported that after turning in a member of their race they were “guilt-tripped” and or victim shaming.
