The 13th amendment abolished slavery, the 14th established the equal protection clause, and the 15th granted voting right for African Americans. I am African American, so without these amendments being passed slavery would have continued on, we would not be protected and viewed as equal under the law, and would not be able to vote. Many African American men and women such as Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X fought and lost their lives fighting for us to have the same rights as White men, women, and children. The case of Sweatt V. Painter involved an African American man Heman Sweatt who applied to University of Texas law program in Austin and denied by the school’s president Theophilus Painter
