Between The 11th and the 13th C. Europe had mission of reclaiming the Holy Land from The Muslims. Although the crusade was meant to be something holy and doing it in the name of Christianity, Not Everyone was doing it in the name of Christianity or for good. In the first Three crusades, were very bloody battles in which Christians were killing in everyone in their path. Muslims and also jews were being attacked by the christian crusaders. The Christian crusaders took over Jerusalem in the first crusade and the muslims took it back on the second crusade and in the third crusade it ended in a stalemate. Richard and Saladin were fighting a pointless war. So they tried to settle an agreement but never really did come to an agreement but they just stopped the fighting. As Richard died raising money was a problem, because Richard was dead the kingdom had no way to raise money for the forth crusade and to pay back venice for the forth crusade and the christians promised they would pay them back at the end of the crusades. But the crusaders couldn't pay back that money they owed so they little choice but to listen to what the Venetians because if they didn't they would have to stopped the crusade which went against their Crusader Vows. The christian crusaders had to change their plans and attack Zara in order to steal money in order for them to pay back the Venetians. Which went totally against what their main mission was set for. The battle wasn't for the Christianity anymore it was in search for money now. The crusades Contradicted itself religiously because they went against everything that they were taught by the church. Especially when they went to attack Zara which was a Christian State as well but they still attacked and killed christians just to satisfy the
