Legal Drinking Age In 1984 The National Minimum Drinking Age Act changed the legal drinking age to 21. From that day on, the legal drinking age has stayed at 21 years old. However, in 29 states, with your parents consent and on a private premises, drinking before the age of 21 is legal. Most teenagers would be in favor of the age limit for drinking alcohol in the United States to change to a younger age. However, most teens are not considering how much this could affect everyone, such as, irresponsible drinkers, drug abuse, and unintended consequences. To begin, if the drinking age limit goes down to a younger age, more kids, for example, that freak out when they have too much soda would not be capable of handling alcohol. If drinking at a younger age became legal, young adults would also consider to try drugs, just out of curiosity. Exposing beer to teenagers would be like a gateway drug, to worse and more harmful drugs. “The Journal of Studies of Alcohol found that the younger a person begins to drink alcohol, the more likely it is that they will use other illicit drugs.” Curiosity is in every human being, the more we do not know, the more we want to know, to gain greater knowledge. With that being said, young adults and teenagers will begin to become more curious on how other types of drugs could make you feel. “Lowering MLDA 21 would increase the number of teens who drink and therefore the number of teens who use other drugs.” It starts here with alcohol, by lowering the age limit, it would just create a whole bunch of reckless behaved teens. Believe me, if the age limit was reduced, there will be a lot more crime and violence everywhere.
